Even the most devoted shopper would admit that they haven’t needed a lot of new clothes in 2020. I’ve only bought a fraction of my usual fashion haul since the pandemic dawned — just the absolute essentials: a sports bra, some face masks and a gold leather pencil skirt.

Admittedly the last item — stalked online for four months before I cracked — was an odd choice, considering I haven’t attended a party since March and, for all I know, may never again. One wouldn’t put it on to work from home or insult it by wearing it to Sainsbury’s. It belongs in a clothing genre that lies close to my heart — a bit flashy, a bit shiny and definitely sexy — and theoretically
