World footballers are known to make some very bold fashion choices, as it often times comes with the territory of superstars who are always in the limelight. That’s not to say that all footballers are guilty of succumbing to the flashy lifestyle, but there’s certainly never a shortage of wardrobe choices to react to.
In a recent interview with InStyle magazine (via Tz), Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry said he often receives some stick in the dressing room from his teammates for some of his bolder fashion choices. He’s had his fair share of audacious choices in the fashion department and he said that his teammates are always quick to lightheartedly let him know he’s really put himself out there: “Yes, there are often sayings because they are often things that some don’t dare to wear. In the end, however, you just mess with it a few jokes about it.”
He’s a sported a number of different hairstyles since he’s been at Bayern. He’s had corn rows, dread locks, a buzz cut, tight fade, and a smallish fro. Looking back, he jokingly reflects on whether or not he sported the fro well: “When I look at photos from phases in which I had my afro look very long, I wonder if that made sense, but it was still very funny.” I mean, hey, he was in sensational form for us when he had the fro and scored 4 goals in the Champions League against Tottenham in North London when he had it, so I’m a big fan.
Fashion icon, in my opinion:
Gnabry can sport it all. Adidas jumpers, retro bucket hats, scarves, sunglasses, suits, plain t-shirts, graphic button-ups, you name it. He could probably have his own designer range if he really wanted to. Perhaps that’s something he could explore with Leon Goretzka and/or Leroy Sane.
Of course, Bayern’s squad is full of fashion icons and Goretkza has essentially transformed himself into a part-time model on the side from footballing. Gnabry now also has a partner in crime (so to speak) at Bayern with Leroy Sane, who received some flack a few years ago for wearing a large fury coat that had graffiti all over it as a part of its style. Gnabry hasn’t quit worn anything as bold as that, but between the two of them, there’s plenty of good banter to go around.
I mean, Not everyone can sport a turtleneck as well as Robert Lewandowski, unfortunately.
