will make it easier for Brevard residents to have access to high-quality obstetrical services
Cape Canaveral Hospital’s Obstetrical Services will be moving within the next two years to best serve Central Brevard
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Health First is pleased to share that Health First’s Viera Hospital will begin offering Labor & Delivery services within the next two years.
Residents have been asking for years – even before Viera Hospital opened in 2011 – when Labor & Delivery services would be available at the hospital, located in the rapidly growing Central Brevard area.
We heard what our community wanted – and are excited to be bringing this service to Viera. It’s a move that makes sense for our patients, given the growing number of new births in the Viera and Central Brevard region.
“We are thrilled to be bringing Labor & Delivery services to the rapidly growing Viera area in the next two years,” said Brett Esrock, CEO of Hospital Services at Health First.
“As we continue to move toward a wellness model of delivering healthcare, Viera Hospital offers the perfect fit for the obstetrical needs of young, growing families in our community.”
The introduction of these services is in conjunction with the relocation of Cape Canaveral Hospital.
Our Cocoa Beach hospital’s relocation to a new site on Merritt Island provides us the opportunity to transfer our obstetrical services at Cape Canaveral Hospital to Viera Hospital.
We are going to continue to offer Health First Medical Group obstetrical services throughout the region, helping to ensure our community can easily access this care.
We will be providing these OB/GYN services at our Health First Medical Group locations in Merritt Island, Viera, Palm Bay and Melbourne (Gateway).
This relocation will make it easier for more Brevard County residents to have convenient access to high-quality obstetrical services. This move will occur within the next two years as we renovate Viera Hospital in a $9.5 million project.
While we are still finalizing the design, we can announce our plan – to have two operating rooms, nursery beds and 14 private rooms for labor, delivery and post-delivery.
Patients will remain in the same room throughout their stay, providing a private space for the family.
We will continue to have obstetrical services (Labor & Delivery) at Cape Canaveral Hospital until these services are moved to Viera Hospital. Once Labor & Delivery opens at Viera, we will no longer deliver babies at Cape Canaveral Hospital.
This relocation will not have an impact on obstetrics and NICU services at Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center.
More details on this project are to come, as we continue our mission of serving the wellness needs of our community.
