THE WHAT? L’Oréal, The Estee Lauder Companies and Kao are among the beauty companies to have made CDP’s A-list this year in a year that saw a record 313 firms achieve the top score.
THE DETAILS The Estee Lauder Companies received the coveted A grade for the first time, an improvement on last year’s A-, while L’Oréal was the only company to have been awarded a Triple A rating for five years on the trot and Kao became the first Japanese company to receive a Triple A score.
“More companies are taking action and this is particularly impressive in this challenging year marked by COVID-19. The scale of the risk to businesses from climate change, deforestation and water insecurity is enormous, and we know the opportunities of action far outweigh the risks of inaction. Our A List celebrates those companies who are preparing themselves to excel in the economy of the future by taking action today,” said Paul Simpson, CEO of CDP.
THE WHY? As Bloomberg Green reports, climate action pays. An index tracking CDP’s A List reveals that sustainably minded companies saw an average annual return that was 5.3 percent higher than less green competitors over the last seven years.
