American fashion designer, Alexander Wang has released a statement denying all the sexual assault allegations that were directed towards him.
ALEXANDER WANG ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT
Recently, Wang was accused by a male model for groping him at a New York City nightclub in 2017. Soon after the model came out with his narrative on social media, several other allegations of sexual assault and non-consensual encounters were made against the designer. They were shared by Diet Prada and another account known for exposing the modelling industry’s ill practices, without revealing the identity of the accusers.
However, after several days of silence, Wang finally released a statement in response to the allegations and the criticism he has faced online.
ALEXANDER WANG’S STATEMENT
Wang told The New York Times, “Over the last few days, I have been on the receiving end of baseless and grotesquely false accusations. These claims have been wrongfully amplified by social media accounts infamous for posting defamatory material from undisclosed and/or anonymous sources with zero evidence or any fact-checking whatsoever.”
He added, “Seeing these lies about me being perpetuated as truths has been infuriating. I never engaged in the atrocious behaviour described and would never conduct myself in the manner that’s been alleged. I intend to get to the bottom of this and hold accountable whoever is responsible for originating these claims and viciously spreading them online.”
Model Alliance, a fashion advocacy group, issued a statement supporting Wang’s accusers. They said, “We at Model Alliance stand in solidarity with those who have shared accusations of sexual abuse by Alexander Wang. Let’s be clear: The fashion industry’s lack of transparency and accountability leaves all models vulnerable to abuse, regardless of their sex or gender identity.”
After the allegations were made against Wang, the comments on his and the brand’s Instagram accounts were turned off.
